Lyrics Rock...
If there is one thing that I have in common with you guys it's a love of music. It's true that we often like different kinds of music, but it is still music none-the-less. Lately I can't stop listening to U2. I know that Damian (if he is reading this) will be saying "Yo, U2 is old, they suck." All I have to say to that is, you're crazy.

Anyway, I have heard it said before that music serves as the expresion of a human beings theology. I believe that is definately true when it comes to our worship songs as well as our "secular" songs.

Song lyrics are amazingly powerful, and have the ability to rattle around your head all day (whether you like it or not). The lyrics of a song that you listen to fifty times during the week affect how you see the world. It would be impossible for it not to. I am curious as to what some of your favorite song lyrics are? They can be phrases, or whole songs if you want, but you must say why you think they are powerful. I will go first.

(In no particular order)

1. "White America" by Emenim: The first time I heard this song I was blown away. Here is Emenim explaining to every parent, youth worker, minister, teacher, and anyone else who will listen how he is connecting with so many young people. One line sticks out to me as being true in the context of suburban vs urban:"Surely hip hop is never a problem In Harlem only In Boston After it bothered ya fathers of daughters startin to blossom".

2. "You glorify the past, the future dries up." by U2 on the song "God pt.2": Just think about that for a second...you start to realize how many people live in yesterday.

3. "Pride - In the Name of Love" by U2: About MLK and others who were killed in the name of love...awesome and inspiring!

4. "To love another person is to see the face of God" from the musical Les Miserables: It's even more powerful after you have listened to the musical.

5. "Thou o Lord are a shield about me, you're my glory, you're the lifter of my head." from the song "A Shield About Me": I constantly need a reminder of that.

6. "Baby mine don't you cry, rest your head close to my heart, never to part, baby of mine." From the Dumbo Soundtrack: You guessed it this is a song we sing to Levi.

7. "Light Up Ahead" by Further Seems Forever: I love this song, especially the acoustic version. I love the line "Take this heart of darkness, I give it up, and all the emptiness, you fill it up, the times that I feel nothing, you bring enough".

What are your favorite lyrics and why?
Comments:
"Imcomplete"-Backstreet boys new song.

This group is old i know but ever since i heard this song on the radio as I was flipping thru stations I was thinkin 2 my self... This song reminds me of someone. So everyday i'll sing the song 2 my self.

my fav songs lyrics r from sitting on the dock of the bay by otis redding and i love my boo by alicia keys and usher. both of these songs just speak out to me and make me think real hard about my life and sometimes about somebody

Even the best fall down sometimes
Even the wrong words seem to rhyme
Out of the doubt that fills my mind
I somehow find
You and I collide

its part of a Howie Day song, im hooked on this guy's acoustic guitar. the lyrics are kinda reassuring

Hey its angel

Yea so im posting on the old blog but who cares, i was just thinking about what lyrics affect me...

Well I have have listening to this artist Common's new album and what a great album it is. Its really a complete 180 degree turn from artists such as 50 cent and G unit blah blah blah. I mean it talks about real problems, things happening in the world today, i mean almost every one my age that has heard it dosent like it, but i kno lke 3 of the younger teachers in my school who have it in there Cd players nd ipods. But like i was saying, i dont think i can really pick one song that really sticks out to me(actually thinking about it now there is a song called "Faithful" that i really like), but his whole album in general is just a masterpiece. One song that I like that isnt on the album is "6th sense--> (it isnt PG but ill put it on newayz)
Somedays I take the L to gel with the real world
Got on at 87th, stopped by this little girl
She recited raps, I forgot where they was from
In 'em, she was saying how she made brothers cum
I start thinking, how many souls hip-hop has affected
How many dead folks this art resurrected
How many nations this culture connected
Who am I to judge one's perspective?
Though some of that **** y'all pop true it, I ain't relating
If I don't like it, I don't like it, that don't mean that I'm hating
I just want to innovate and stimulate minds
Travel the world and penetrate the times
Escape through rhythms in search of peace and wisdom
Raps are smoke signals letting the streets know I'm with 'em
For now I appreciate this moment in time
Ball players and actors be knowing my rhymes, it's like..."

So yea thats Common.. go get his album Common "Be"

Another artist that i really like is John legend... its late so im not gonna right that much about him... but he is another artist who is really talented and dosent only sing about getting in girls' pants. So get his album too John Legend "So High." I really like the song --> so high, and It dont have to change.

And coincidently all these artists are under KANYE WEST!!!
So he is the one who really drew me in all this (in my opinion)"real hip-hop nd R&B" They are all under his label G.O.O.D(getting out of our dreams) Music

So ~uNo~

Oh yea this is ANgel
