What's Crackalackin'
See you at Church!
We are making great progress on the "Children Arts and Film Festival" and the screening of "Invisible Children". Yesterday at PHAT 108 we settled on what crafts we will be providing.
1. Mask Painting
2. "Dreams" - Making clouds, stars, or sheep
3. Lanyard bracelet making
4. Build a Friend - Homemade Dolls
Cartoon Pizza and Dale and Thomas Popcorn have signed on as sponsors of our event. Cartoon Pizza is underwritting the Arts and Crafts project and D&T is providing popcorn for us to sell at the events for cost!

Everyone is doing a great job getting things ready for this event. I want to encourage everyone to show up to church on Sunday so that we can finalize our plans. Edwin has done some great research into charities, and one that has stood out to me is Uganda Children's Charity Foundation. I have also contacted a missionary in Uganda to ask if there is anyplace they know of that would benefit from the money we raise. I would like for all of you to start praying that people in church will take the time to bring their kids to the Children's festival and that they will come see the "Invisible Children" film.

On a different subject. I know that many of you feel a little unsure about the whole new youth church schedule. Just so you can know what to expect this Sunday here is the schedule for this Sunday:
9:45 - 10:00 am Breakfast!
10:00 - 10:30 am Worship (this week with KC)
10:30 - 11:00 am Look at James 4:1-10
11:00 - 11:20 Project Meeting
I hope to see you all Sunday morning. Have a good weekend.

This Week!

Let's Have Lunch!
This Tuesday we will have the first of our Tuesday lunches. Meet at the church by 12:30 pm and we will go have lunch and then pass out some flyers concerning the upcoming Film Festival.

On another note. PHAT 108 will meet every week at the church from 4 - 7 pm. We have to postpone going to the Reyes house until we can get the church van back from the Camp Shiloh. So until August 11th we will meet at the church for PHAT 108 at 4pm.

See ya tomorrow!

This Sunday 7-17

Rape and sexual violence against women and girls have been a prominent feature of the ethnic cleansing campaign carried out by the Rwandan government forces and militias.

Human Rights Watch: What's happening here?
13-year-old artist: These men in green are taking the women and the girls.
Human Rights Watch: What are they doing?
Boy: They are forcing them to be wife. The houses are on fire.
Human Rights Watch: What's happening here?
Boy: This is an Antonov. This is a helicopter. These here, at the bottom of the page, these are dead people.

At PHAT 108 yesterday we watched "The Invisible Children" DVD and it was quite an experience. At the end of the movie everyone sat in stunned silence at what we had just seen. The poverty, violence, fear, hope, and tragedy that the children of Northern Uganda deal with everyday was unbelievable.

Thomas was at PHAT 108 and after a while he talked about how similar kinds of suffering doesn't exist only in Africa, but it exists in the US as well. He is right, in that suffering is suffering and there are children who live only 5 miles from our church that are hungry, neglected, or abused. Yet, when you take into account the numbers of people who are suffering, and the numbers of people who experience death at the hands of violence and preventable diseases, nothing compares to Africa.

This Sunday we will be re-showing the film during Youth Church. I would like to remind you that YC begins Sunday morning at 9:45 am and is over at 11:30 am. In three weeks we are going to try to have an event that brings to light some of the suffering of these children. I hope that you make it a point to be at Youth Church on time so that we can have the full hour and a half to watch the movie and come up with ways to use our TIME, PRAYER, TALENTS, and MONEY to help these invisible children.

See you Sunday morning.
